January 2006

Arrival in the States

We arrived in West Palm on December 24th. We celebrated Christmas with our children. We thank God that we are able to return home twice during the times that the university is closed. It is so good to be in the states and to receive the refreshing we need to prepare us to show God’s love to the Chinese.

Thank you all

Thank you for all your prayers and financial support which will allow us to continue with our missionary efforts and ministry in China. Your generosity has been overwhelming. Our health, living and business expenses are being met. This confirms for us that God continues to want us in China serving Him.

The ministry

Because of your generosity, you have enabled us to provide 5 MP3 players for 5 blind students. The blind students that David teaches will return home for their Chinese New Year’s festival for the month of January and be able to practice the English they have learned over the last 10 weeks with the use of these MP3 players. We have committed a monthly food allowance support for 7 needy university students. Every year a list of students is made and distributed among the teachers of the university. Over half of David’s salary is given to help them. We are now sponsoring 2 children from an orphanage about 2 hours from us. The children are a boy 13 and a girl 12. An American missionary has established the orphanage a few years ago. She has about 35 children. Some have lost their parents but most have been abandoned. Supporting students and children such has these are at least 2 of the priorities of China Mission Project. We will continue to add to the number of children we support as funds become available.

Security crack down

A few weeks before we left China all evangelism outreach was stopped by the Chinese Public Security Bureau (PSB). The momentum gained over the past 9 months by the Christians at the university was quenched by the discovery that teachers were having Bible studies and religious discussions in their rooms with the students. The threat of dismissal, with a 24 hours notice to leave the country, was handed down from the new president for anyone caught teaching the Bible
to the students.

Please Pray.

We need wisdom as we determine strategies to continue to accomplish the work that God has called us to. If caught again we will be deported. We are able to write about this since we are communicating from the United States. In China, the PSB still reads our mail and monitors all we do. The information we can send or receive is limited.

Our health is good.

Susan continues to improve over last year due to change in medication David’s diagnosis of a kidney cyst has posed no problems for him. He will continue to monitor his condition and trust God for His Grace.

Meeting with friends.

We have set January 28th at 5pm for a get together with our friends. We have found it to be easier to have people come to one place rather than for us to try and go in many directions. We will send out directions to our Daughter and Son-In-Law’s house in Wellington. We hope to see you there.
